Imagine what your life would be like.
Over the past year, I’ve been working for a marketing company who has given me clients to write for on a silver platter—An amazing first gig for a writer who is dipping their toes into the (copy)writing world.
But there were a couple of times when I’ve been approached to write for other companies.
Two agencies approached me about being a ghostwriter for them. One of my powerlifting mentors asked me to be an email marketing consultant for his company.
I turned down all three opportunities...
I didn't want them to take their chances with me. I do have writing experience working with companies but with the help of a copy editor. I was worried I would do more harm than good if I tried alone.
But how long will I continue to say ‘no’ and never start my solo freelancing business?
After talking to my friend, Shruthi, she helped me realize I was scared of failing.
She gave me three pieces of advice:
Ask yourself, "Do you have good intentions with wanting to help this person?"
Your clients make the final decision if they want to take your advice or not at the end of the day.
We all make mistakes, but we can learn from them and see where our strengths and weaknesses lie.
Shruthi's wisdom helped me take that leap of faith and attempt to build my email list management service.
So the next time you’re having doubts about wanting to take on a client, try referring back to the three advice above.
Building in Public
Every other Friday, some of my Twitter friends and I jump on a call to help one another with our projects.
I love these calls because they help keep me accountable and to update my friends on my progress with my email list management service.
Find a group of friends who want to help and keep you accountable make a world of a difference.
My Favourite Resource | Lesson This Week
My amazing friend, Jannis created a site called Tools for Creator as a one stop shop for all your creator tool needs such as customer feedback, SEO, email marketing and so much more.
Plus, Jannis recently launched a website audit for indie founder and those building a SaaS product or tool.
Have a jolly weekend,
Christine
Yeah I like that! Why make the decision that you’re not good enough?
Hello Christine, I sent you a question/proposal on a LinkedIn connection attempt :)
