I'm talking about mentors.
I believe having mentors is one of the best ways to fast-track your success. You don't need one, but having someone in your corner makes a huge difference in your journey.
During my master's, I had classmates fighting over people to mentor them like sport scientists and strength coaches who train Olympic athletes.
While everyone was searching for these prestigious influencers in our field, I was asking a humble friend at work for wisdom instead.
She's a few years older, has a master's, and a well established career in kinesiology—in my eyes, she was the definition of success.
One day, she asked me what I was going to do after my bachelor's degree.
I timidly told her I was thinking of pursuing a master's.
After that day, we spent every week at work (for an entire year) walking and talking about my application for my master's. She connected me with people in her network, provided me with wisdom from her experience, and answered a billion of my questions.
Even though she’s 10 inches taller, she literally and figuratively walked alongside me to show me what I was capable of and was there to guide me from start to finish.
I'm forever grateful for her kindness, generosity, and helping me get into my master’s program.
A mentor is not someone who walks ahead of you to show you how they did it. A mentor walks alongside you to show you what you can do.
They don’t have to be a world-renowned professional in your field.
They might be a friend, an older sibling, or even another colleague with other strengths and experiences to share.
Building in Public
I took this week off work to go on a trip to Vancouver, Canada. So no progress or updates this week…
But I wanted to share a great resource.
Build in Public Mastery (BIPM) is hands down my favourite course to show you how to create a successful personal brand as a creator and freelancer. What makes BIPM different from other courses is that Kevon teaches you how to sell as a creator without being a marketing sleazeball.
Instead, you utilize your story and work. As a result, you can keep being your genuine self. 🤗
Kevon, the creator of BIPM, is hosting a free 2 day bootcamp from September 27th to 28th to give you a glimpse into what we learned in BIMP. I would highly recommend checking out this bootcamp, Kevon provides a ton of value in everything he offers.
My Favourite Resource | Lesson This Week
I recently connected with Franck from My First Dollar Online, who is sharing resources on how creators can make their first dollar online. He invited me to guest post on his site.
I’ve made so many mistakes trying to build an online business. When Franck offered me to share my insights on his site, I was ecstatic to share.
→ Discover how I earned my first dollar online and what not to do
Had I not made these mistakes, I would have saved thousands of dollars and years.
Have a chicken nugget and stay flipping jolly,
Christine
P.S. Big thank you to everyone who replied to my email and messaged me last week. You guys are amazing. I’m grateful to have such caring friends in my life. Thank you. ❤️
👋😊
Probably you could write a post on how to find mentors next? Because that's most difficult (at least for me) haha
