I don’t know how to tie my shoes properly.
During my master's, people knew me for walking with my shoes untied. In fact, my instructor would purposely step on my shoes to try and teach me a lesson.
But get this.
I've never fallen from wearing untied shoelaces.
That was until last week when I visited one of my friends. She couldn't believe I still didn't know how to tie my shoes after finishing our masters a year ago.
During my Vancouver trip, we spent lots of time walking around the city. I was averaging ~13,000 steps a day and tying my shoes incorrectly every couple thousand steps.
My friend couldn't take it anymore and stopped us in the parking lot so she could tie my shoes. 🙈
When we got home, she sat me down and taught me how to tie my shoes.
I know, you're supposed to learn when you're a kid.
But no one took the time to sit me down and watch how I tied my shoes until now.Â
Turns out, I was using an ineffective method.
Now, at 26, I can tie my shoes without them coming undone every hour.
Guys, I feel like an adult now. 🤣
But this reminded me that we all learn things at different times in our lives. Some people learn sooner or later than others, and that's ok, too!
Building in Public
Kevon from Build in Public Mastery has invited my good friends, Mattia, Jannis, and I to guest appear in his Builder’s Bonfire Webinar on October 10th at 10AM EST. The three of us will be answering questions on:
How to create momentum and generate interest
How to get a lot of engagement from your audience
How to build and share in parallel to get traction
These are the 3 things you need to use the power of social media to fuel your business.

My Favourite Lesson This Week
I used to think I didn’t compare myself to others but turns out I was.
If someone was having a hard time, I would compare my situation to theirs. If their situation was worse, I would focus on helping them and ignoring my own needs.
I didn’t realize this until my friend pointed out that I was comparing myself to others. This reminded me to focus on myself and self-care.Â
I had no idea how this would impact me until a friend pointed this out.Â
Sometimes we need an outside perspective to provide different insights.Â
Have a chicken nugget and stay flipping jolly,
Christine
I will now admit, publicly, that I learned to tie my shoes properly around the same age as you. I had been doing the bunny ears method my entire life. And then, I taught myself how to do it.
"I know, you're supposed to learn when you're a kid."
But this difference makes you cooler 😉 and more "unique"
- Hey man, do you know that girl?
- Who?
- Christine.
- Umm... who is she?
- What? The girl who doesn't know how to tie her shoelaces.
- Ohhhh... yeah I know her.
