I wrote a 9-page sales letter in 1.5 hours
For the copywriting mentorship I'm in, we had to write a sales letter in 1.5 hours ( including research).
Here's the breakdown:
Research: 25 min
Headlines: 10 min
Lead: 25 min
Body Copy: 25 min
Offer Stack: 10 min
And the niche we were writing for was on orchids (what the flippers?!).
The sales letter was like a test to see if I've applied the feedback and concepts from the mentorship in a short period of time.
Even with my shitty first draft grammar and words misspelled, I gained great feedback from my mentor. Like nailing the lead (A few weeks back, I failed my lead assignment). Plus, hearing that I've made significant progress in my copy.
So if you're facing writer's block, try setting a timer and spit out as many ideas as possible in your first draft. A great piece of advice from one my mentors is that no matter how long you spend on your first draft, the copy will still be 💩
The real copy magic happens in the editing progress.
Which I still suck at... But my boss and I have been creating an editing cheat sheet for improving my copy. Here's a sneak peak👇
Notice how I've listed three rounds. Editing isn't where you read everything in one go. If you do, you'll miss a bunch of things (I learned this the hard way).
For April, I'm going to be spending more time editing. So I can work on improving my craft. And hopefully make my copy mentor's life easier 😅
