Digging for treasure on WOW island
In December 2021, I apologized to my boss for being the worst writer in the company, The Wizards of Wordcraft (WOW).
I wasn't writing for as many clients or producing the same quality as the other writers on the team.
In response, my boss gave me an analogy of all the writers on an island. He gave us all shovels to dig for buried treasure.
Some writers kept digging narrow and deep while only focusing on the writing treasure.
Meanwhile, another writer and I were digging in multiple areas. Not only looking for writing treasure but also extra trinkets to share with others.
Regardless of what method we chose, everyone was bound to find treasure.
But my boss mentioned something interesting about the path I chose.
My boss told me that I might not be writing as much as the other writers… But I was providing immense value to the company and team from my other roles like being a:
Researcher
Virtual Assistant/Project Manager
In-house Notion Consultant
Job Recruiter
These roles weren't originally assigned to me. They happened from reaching out to my boss and offering to use my skills from past experiences.
Sometimes these strengths might come from outside of work. Maybe from hobbies or experiences that aren't related to your field.
I wanted to share this story with y'all to remind you that we all have different strengths that we can bring to the table.
