Changing careers but keeping the passion 🔥
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been getting a couple hints from the universe about my career change.
My friend Brody and I discovered something fascinating.
We both are passionate about our respective fields. Brody in finance and me in fitness.
But when we made our career shift to becoming a copywriter, we wanted to stray away from those topics. Yet the pull to finance and fitness came back.
This had us wondering if we're still passionate about our field but needed a career change.
Later that day, I came across the word "Ikigai" in the book, The Minimalist Entrepreneur. Ikigai means the reason you wake up in the morning. In the book, the author defines four areas of achieving ikigai:
What you love
What the world needs
What you are paid for
What you are good at
As a fitness coach, I felt like I covered 3/4 areas. But as a copywriter... I'm at 2/4 but I feel happier.
I'm not sure if I'll ever find a career where I cover all 4 areas. But I guess the universe is trying to slap some sense into me.
Cause a couple days ago, my friend, Alex recommended that I read A dozen Lives. In the newsletter, it talks about utilizing the bottoms-up approach to career planning, which is where you:
Focus on being present in the moment
Pay attention to what you actually like doing
Keep an ear to the ground for opportunities that better fit those desires and
Move towards those opportunities that resonate with you
After doing some reflecting this week, I'm pivoting towards using a bottoms-up approach to improving my four areas of ikigai.
If you're like me, who always plans things ahead of time, maybe give the bottoms-up approach a try.
Hope that helps friends.
If you need anything, I'm always happy to chat.
