Assess don't guess in 2022
Before you dive deep into making 2022 goals, have you reflected on 2021?
Did you achieve your goals this year?
What were some of the ups and downs?
Back when I was finishing my master's in Kinesiology, some of my professors focused on self-reflection assignments. We would answer questions like:
Did today's lecture change the way you think about this topic? If so, how? If not, why?
How can this lecture be applied to your future career?
After today's lecture, what areas of this topic is still unclear to you?
While kinesiology can be a very data-driven field, reflections are just as powerful to assess your progress. These self-reflection assignments gave me a different critical lens to assess. Helping me gain awareness of what I wanted to learn in my master's to better prepare me for life after school.
These self-reflection habits I formed in school continue to stick with me when I do yearly reviews. And for 2021 reflection, I'll be using Dickie Bush's 21 questions:
So before you make goals and plans for 2022, reflect on 2021. Assess on the past year so you aren't guessing on how to improve in 2022.
How are you going to reflect on 2021? Reply to this email. I'm genuinely curious. And if you need someone to hype you up on your achievements, I'm your girl 🥳
Happy New Year!
